Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there.   They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. Genesis 11:1-3

Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel —because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth. Genesis 11:4-9

The more the gods become like men, the easier it is for men to believe the gods.  When both have only human appetites, then rogues may worship rogues. The Song

RELY ON HIM

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the LORD. Isaiah 31:1

TRUST IN HIM

Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the word of his servant? Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God. Isaiah 50:10

Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria.  He boasted that he was someone great, and all the people, both high and low gave him their attention and exclaimed, “This man is the divine power known as the Great Power.” Acts 8:9-10

Simone himself believed and was baptized.  And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished at the great signs and miracles he saw. Acts 8:13

… He offered them money and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” Acts 8:18b-19

Peter answered: may your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. Acts 8:20-21

GIVE TO HIM

Whom did the Lord consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge or showed him the path of understanding? Isaiah 40:14

Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor? Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him? Romans 11:34-35
