We are continuing in our series on Ecclesiastes. In week three I will look at the theme on the “Futility of Time” as Solomon writes about in this book.

“In the few days of our meaningless lives, who knows how our days can best be spent? Our lives are like a shadow. Who can tell what will happen on this earth after we are gone?”  Ecclesiastes 6:12

1.  TIME REMINDS US OF OUR INEVITABILITY

The Inevitability is that life will have both good and bad times.

“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.”  Ecclesiastes 3:1

2.  TIME REVEALS TO US OUR INADEQUACY

The inadequacy is that we cannot see the whole picture of life.

“…people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11b

3.  TIME REPRESENTS FOR US OUR OPPORTUNITY

The opportunity is to make an impact for God with our life.

“So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can.”  Ecclesiastes 3:12

4.  TIME REQUIRES OF US OUR RESPONSIBILITY

The responsibility is to make the best use of our life with the time we have.

“What is happening now has happened before, and what will happen in the future has happened before, because God makes the same things happen over and over again.”  Ecclesiastes 3:15
