This is a new post I started a couple of weeks ago. Each week I hope to write a post about the upcoming sermon theme or topic. Last week we had a guest speaker so I did not post. I am hoping to receive some comments from our church community to help me with the upcoming topic. The first week was a smashing success as two people recommended books that were very helpful to me. For the next two Sundays
I am going to speak specifically on our church theme “Revolutionary Love.” We started this fall considering the example of Jesus. I challenged the church to live like Jesus lived and love like Jesus loved. This Sunday I am going to talk about how we can become a more loving person and then next week I will talk about how we can be a more loving church. I am going to call this two week series Game Changers. I know … that is an overused sports cliche. I get a kick out of watching Sunday afternoon NFL football and the 1001 cliches the sports casters use. How many times have you heard “step up to the plate,” “bring your A game,” keep your focus,” etc. “Game changer” is one of those cliches. However, the term implies an event that is significant. So my belief is that what I am going to talk about in this series is indeed a Game Changer in the sense it is incredibly significant to your Christian life. After all Paul said it this way in 1 Corinthians 13:13: “Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.” He says it best. Love is the greatest. So, if we become more loving people and a more loving church then it truly is a Game Changer.
Do you agree? What are your thoughts about this series? Do you have any insights on this topic to help me teach the congregation?
