B. HISTORY LESSON ABOUT CHURCH
CALL TO PATIENCE AND OBEDIENCE
Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Acts 2:1 On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place.
Acts 2:2 Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting.
Acts 2:41 Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.
Acts 5:28 “We gave you strict orders never again to teach in this man’s name!” he said. “Instead, you have filled all Jerusalem with your teaching about him, and you want to make us responsible for his death!”
JUDEA AND SAMARIA
Acts 8:1 Saul was one of the witnesses, and he agreed completely with the killing of Stephen. A great wave of persecution began that day, sweeping over the church in Jerusalem; and all the believers except the apostles were scattered through the regions of Judea and Samaria.
ALL THE JEWS AND GREEKS IN THE PROVINCE OF ASIA AND THEN THERE IS US
Acts 19:10 This went on for the next two years, so that people throughout the province of Asia—both Jews and Greeks—heard the word of the Lord.
D. FOUR REASONS
1. Because Jesus said He would build it and He would be the Head
Matthew 16:18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hellwill not conquer it.
Ephesians 1:22-23 God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.
Colossians 1:18 Christ is also the head of the church, which is His body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So He is first in everything.
2. Because Jesus said it and is using it now to impact communities
Only when viewed in these three perspectives:
The Bride of Christ
The Body of Christ
The Family of God
3. Because Jesus changed my life through the church
4. Because there is no better place to ‘one another’ one another
