Do you ever get tired thinking about all the things you have to do? Have you ever wanted to resign from the human race for a week, just so you can do what you want to do? Do you ever feel like your life is out of control? This week’s message is based on the life of Jesus, using His life as an example of how we can learn how to live with a lot less stress.
BE STRESS FREE

SECRETS OF STRESS-FREE LIVING
1. IDENTIFICATION: KNOW WHO YOU ARE
John 8:12, 18 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world… I am one witness, and my Father who sent me is the other.”
- If you know whose you are, then you’ll know who you are.
2. DEDICATION: KNOW WHO YOU ARE TRYING TO PLEASE
John 5:30 I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will.
Luke 16:33 No one can serve two masters.
- You cannot please everyone.
3. ORGANIZATION: KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH
John 8:14 Jesus told them, “For I know where I came from and where I am going.”
- Preparation prevents pressure but procrastination produces pressure
4. CONCENTRATION: FOCUS ON THE MOST IMPORTANT THING
Luke 4:42-44 Early the next morning Jesus went out to an isolated place. The crowds searched everywhere for him, and when they finally found him, they begged him not to leave them. But he replied, “I must preach the Good News of the Kingdom of God in other towns, too, because that is why I was sent.” So he continued to travel around, preaching in synagogues throughout Judea.
- “Mindfulness” – Whatever you’re doing, be fully present
5. DELEGATION: DON’T TRY TO DO EVERYTHING YOURSELF
Mark 3:14 Then he appointed twelve of them and called them his apostles. They were to accompany him, and he would send them out to preach.
- Why we don’t delegate: 1) perfectionism; 2) insecurity
6. MEDITATION: MAKE A HABIT OF PERSONAL PRAYER
Luke 5:15-16 But despite Jesus’ instructions, the report of his power spread even faster, and vast crowds came to hear him preach and to be healed of their diseases. But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.
7. RELAXATION: TAKE SOME TIME OFF
Mark 6:31 Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat.
Matthew 11:19 The Son of Man, on the other hand, feasts and drinks, and you say, “He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and other sinners!”
Matthew 11:28-30 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
23rd Psalm, Japanese Translation
The Lord is my Pace-setter, I shall not rush;
He makes me stop and rest for quiet intervals.
He provides me with images of stillness,
which restore my serenity.
He leads me in ways of efficiency
through calmness of mind,
and His guidance is peace.
Even though I have a great many things
to accomplish each day,
I will not fret, for His presence is here;
His timelessness, His all importance,
will keep me in balance.
He prepares refreshment and renewal
in midst of my activity,
By anointing my mind with His oils of tranquility.
My cup of joyous energy overflows,
surely harmony and effectiveness
shall be the fruits of my hours,
for I shall walk, in the pace of my Lord
and dwell in His house forever.
