There are three forces fighting against our families, and they’re happening all the time. They are working against your family and your marriage, and you need to be prepared for them. You’re only going to be able to stand against these destabilizing forces if you have a strong foundation in your family and your marriage.

THE MARRIAGE CHALLENGE

FORCES FIGHTING AGAINST OUR FAMILIES

1. THE STANDARDS OF OUR CULTURE

2 Timothy 3:1-4  You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God.

Romans 12:2  Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

2. THE STRESS OF CRISIS

Psalm 69:1-2  Save me, O God, for the floodwaters are up to my neck. Deeper and deeper I sink into the mire; I can’t find a foothold. I am in deep water, and the floods overwhelm me.

Isaiah 43:1-2  Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.  I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.

3. THE SEASONS OF CHANGE

Philippians 4:11,13  For I have learned how to be content with whatever I have… For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

Matthew 7:24-25  Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.

1 Corinthians 3:111  For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ.
