Life is all about relationships; Jesus said that himself. This week’s message is about how to have an amazing family. Families are not amazing by accident. By accident, we’re average, and we have to fight for our family if we want to have a great family. There are all kinds of forces in society that are working against your family including economic forces, spiritual forces, moral forces, cultural forces, and social forces. We have to fight to have an amazing family. It’s never too late to make your family better, no matter where you are in the continuum of family life.

There are four things you can do to move your family from average to amazing.

FOUR TRAITS OF AMAZING FAMILIES

1. AMAZING FAMILIES ARE PLAYFUL

Ecclesiastes 8:15 So I recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy life.

Ecclesiastes 11:8a When people live to be very old, let them rejoice in every day of life.

Ecclesiastes 9:9 Live happily with the woman you love through all the meaningless days of life that God has given you under the sun. The wife God gives you is your reward for all your earthly toil.

Psalm 127:3 Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.

2. AMAZING FAMILIES ENCOURAGE GROWTH

Luke 2:52 Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favour with God and all the people.

Proverbs 24:16 The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.

3. AMAZING FAMILIES PROTECT ONE ANOTHER

Matthew 5:45 For (God) gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.

4. AMAZING FAMILIES SERVE GOD AND OTHERS

Hebrews 10:24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.

Acts 10:2 He was a devout, God-fearing man, as was everyone in his household. He gave generously to the poor and prayed regularly to God.

Joshua 24:15 But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve… But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.
