What does it mean to live in the world we live in and not succumb to the ever-present, ever-growing feeling that things are falling apart. How do we find a place of firmness and stability in the midst of an ever-changing, unstable world?
How to Hold On When The World is Falling Apart
Message by Tom Fenske – August 14, 2016
1 John 4:15-18 (NIV) If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
WHAT WE FEAR
What we think will create security: power, prestige, possessions
Love creates security. (verse 15-16)
A love for God is marked by Christ-like behaviour. (verse 17)
Fear comes from a fear of judgement. (verse 18)
Moral judgement = I have broken the rules.
Relational judgement = I am rejected by others.
A life FREE of fear is a life FULL of love.
LIVING LIKE THERE’S NO TOMORROW
1 John 5:11-12 (NLT) And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.
Our goal should be to spread the message of life in a world battling death.
