We live in such an intense world where so many of us are pushing so hard to raise good families and to do well at our jobs and to be good citizens and to be good neighbours, that we just keep going and going and going… We run and rush and work all day with packed schedules until we become conditioned that this is normal life. This pace can start to swallow you up until life feels like an endless list of chores and responsibilities and tasks and activities. In this busyness, how do we find space for meditation, contemplation, reflection, or imagination?

WHY WE FEAR QUIET (or, FIGHTING GRAVITY)
BUSYNESS IS NOT GODLINESS
Matthew 14:23 After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.
PRAYER ALLOWS US TO ACCEPT, AND EVEN EMBRACE, OUR LIMITATIONS
John 12:27-28 Jesus … “Now my soul is deeply troubled. Should I pray, ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But this is the very reason I came! Father, bring glory to your name.” Then a voice spoke from heaven, saying, “I have already brought glory to my name, and I will do so again.”
THE DISCIPLE’S PRAYER
God wants our honesty, not our obligation
Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins,
As we have forgiven those who sin against us.
And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
THE THREE B’S
Genesis 2:7 Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.
2. BE STILL
Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honoured by every nation. I will be honoured throughout the world.
John 8:47 Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God. But you don’t listen because you don’t belong to God.
