We continue with the series Me And My Real family. We all want to be respected. Before the message, we watched a clip from the movie Parenthood, in which a father daydreams about a future where his son graduates college and thanks him for all his support.

ME AND MY REAL FAMILY: GETTING THE RESPECT YOU DESIRE

Message by Todd Lester – June 18, 2017

Proverbs 22:1 Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold.

1 Samuel 16:7 The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

HOW TO EARN RESPECT

1. SPEAK WITH INTEGRITY

Proverbs 25:14 A person who promises a gift but doesn’t give it is like clouds and wind that bring no rain.

Proverbs 10:9 People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed.

2. SERVE WITH INTENSITY

Proverbs 14:22 (GNB) You will earn the trust and respect of others if you work for good; if you work for evil, you are making a mistake.

Proverbs 11:27 (GNB) If your goals are good, you will be respected, but if you are looking for trouble, that is what you will get.

3. SHARE WITH GENEROSITY

Psalm 112:9 They share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honour.

Proverbs 11:25 The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

4. SUCCEED WITH HUMILITY

Proverbs 29:23 (GNB) Arrogance will bring your downfall, but if you are humble, you will be respected.

Proverbs 27:21  Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but a person is tested by being praised.

Proverbs 10:7  We have happy memories of the godly, but the name of a wicked person rots away.
