If you fail to understand grace, you will fail to thrive in your Christian life. In this second message of our Grace sermon series, we learned how grace is the solution to guilt. All of us at some point in our lives have to say, “I did it.” There are things we all struggle with, areas where we have sinned.

GRACE: GUILT AND GRACE

Message by Todd Lester – July 16, 2017

GUILT AND GRACE

James 2:10  For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws.

WHAT IS GUILT?

Psalm 38:4  My guilt overwhelms me— it is a burden too heavy to bear.

HOW WE HANDLE GUILT

How Adam and Eve handled guilt:

1. Shame

2. Hiding

3. Blame

Some of the ways we handle guilt: projection, rationalization, comparison, repression, distractions, escapism

HOW GOD HANDLES GUILT

1 John 1:9  But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

HOW TO LIVE GUILT FREE

1. Confess Your Sins

Psalm 69:5  O God, you know how foolish I am; my sins cannot be hidden from you.

2. Trust God’s Character

Hebrews 10:22  …let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.

3. Accept God’s Forgiveness

Hebrews 8:12 (NET) … their sins I will remember no longer.

John 3:18  There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him.

Psalm 32:5  Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.
