Many of us have heard hundreds, if not thousands, of sermons, but it’s always good to get back to the basics and review some things that are important to our Christian walk.

HYPOCRITES

Matthew 23:25-27 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean. Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.”

LOSING OUR BALANCE

Isaiah 29:13 The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.”

Matthew 15:8 These people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

James 3:9-10 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

1 Peter 2:1 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

INSIDE OUT

Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

1 Samuel 16:7b The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

Psalm 139:23 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
