In this message, Interim Pastor Bill Johnston reflects on the indescribable yet powerful love of God which penetrates to the deepest part of our being.
First, we watched this powerful video. Bible stories are often told like fairy tales; they become larger than life. But the author of the Christmas story included a footnote that firmly plants the story of Jesus’ birth in an historical context. Luke wanted us to know that what “came to pass” was not a fairy tale, but rather the greatest story ever told.
Message by Bill Johnston – December 24, 2017
GOD’S LOVE IS …
Ephesians 3:18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.
Ephesians 3:19a May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully.
Jeremiah 31:3a Long ago the Lord said to Israel: “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love.”
Jeremiah 31:3b “With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.” Romans 8:39b …nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Isaiah 43:1,2,4b But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you…because you are precious to me. You are honoured, and I love you.”
John 3:16 For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Ephesians 3:18-19a And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ.
