EXPERIENCING GOD’S PRESENCE AT WORK IN 2018

If a man is called to be a street-sweeper he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven played music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, “Here lived a great street-sweeper who did his job well.” ~ Martin Luther King Jr.

WAYS OF EXPERIENCING GOD’S PRESENCE

1. WITH YOUR GIFTS, ABILITIES, SKILLS

Romans 12:6-8 CEV In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

Mark 6:35-37 CEV That evening the disciples came to Jesus and said, “This place is like a desert, and it is already late. Let the crowds leave, so they can go to the farms and villages near here and buy something to eat.” Jesus replied, “You give them something to eat.” But they asked him, “Don’t you know that it would take almost a year’s wages to buy all of these people something to eat?”

2. BY MEETING REAL NEEDS

Exodus 3:7-8a Then the Lord told him, “I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land.”

Deuteronomy 34:10 There has never been another prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face.

Matthew 25:40 CEV Whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did it for me.

3. BY HAVING A PARALLEL CONVERSATION WITH GOD AT WORK

Mark 12:30-31 ‘You must love him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.’ The second most important commandment says: ‘Love others as much as you love yourself.’ No other commandment is more important than these.

Psalm 103:1 KJV Bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me bless his holy name.

Psalm 1:2 CEV … think about God’s law day and night.

Psalm 86:14-15 CEV Proud and violent enemies, who don’t care about you, have ganged up to attack and kill me. But you, the Lord God, are kind and merciful. You don’t easily get angry, and your love can always be trusted.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 CEV Always be joyful and never stop praying. Whatever happens, keep thanking God because of Jesus Christ.

REFLECTION

What could change in my life if I experienced God in my work more?
