We have freedom when we trust God in the midst of our problems and challenges. Freedom is experiencing the power of being released, of having “no strings attached,” of being outside of the box, of carrying no more weight, guilt or shame. It is the profound gift that only Jesus offers.

FULLNESS: FULLNESS AND FREEDOM

Message by Bill Johnston – August 12, 2018

John 8:31-36

1. FREEDOM BEGINS WITH WHO AND WHAT YOU KNOW

John 8:31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.”

John 15:7 But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!

James 1:21 So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.

2. THE FREEDOM PRINCIPLE

John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

Psalm 119:45 I will walk in freedom, for I have devoted myself to your commandments.

Romans 8:1-2 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

3. THE ALL-TOO-TYPICAL REALITY: LIVING A LIE

John 8:33-35 “But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?” Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever.”

4. ULTIMATE FREEDOM

John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

5. FREEDOM WITHIN BOUNDARIES

1 Corinthians 9:18-19 What then is my pay? It is the opportunity to preach the Good News without charging anyone. That’s why I never demand my rights when I preach the Good News. Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ.

2 Corinthians 3:17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
