JESUS, OUR LIGHT
DARKNESS AND SIN
Romans 1:21 NASB For even though they knew God, they did not honour Him as God or give thanks… and their foolish hearts were darkened.
1 John 2:11 NIV But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.
LIGHT AND JESUS
Isaiah 9:2 NIV The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.
John 1:4-5 NIV In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 8:12 NIV [Jesus] said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
AN INVITATION
1 Thessalonians 5:5 NIV You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
Matthew 5:14-16 NIV You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
TAKE HOME
1. Ask: “God, what would it mean for me to shine your light here?”
2. Ask: “God, how can I shine your light in my time of need?”
3. Ask: “God, how do I show forgiveness in my relationships?”
4. Ask: “God, what does it mean to shine your light when I share about my relationship with you?”
