Who We Are

Welcome to the digital home for Westheights Community Church. Here you will find our online community to help serve the desire of our congregation to stay connected. We believe that on this blog you will discover a lot of information that will prove helpful to you in your life as a follower of Jesus. It is our hope that we will be a connected church characterized by people who serve, play and live life together. Simply put: this is our way to stay connected when we are not together.

CONTEMPORARY AND CASUAL

Westheights is a friendly, contemporary church on the west side of Kitchener-Waterloo.  Our vision is to “help people find and follow Jesus.”

We are not a church that’s “into religion.”  We offer the Good News of God’s love for everyone. God wants a relationship with each person that He has created. If you  are a person seeking a relationship with God, that’s a great place to be.  According to Jesus, seekers find what they are looking for. If you are open to the idea that God may exist and, more importantly, that He may want a place in your life, then come visit Westheights Community Church. We want to help those who are seeking to find a meaningful and personal relationship with God.

The people at Westheights are friendly. The sermons are relevant and interesting (not boring) and we even provide notes so you can follow along with the pastor. The music is contemporary, upbeat (keyboards, guitars, horns, percussion) and encouraging. Dress is casual so come as you are. We  provide a fun program just for children so your whole family can enjoy your experience at Westheights. The Sunday morning service is about one hour. We won’t waste your time. We just want to share the good news of God’s love. Every Sunday 300 people meet for the service. Don’t worry, we won’t do anything to embarrass you and we certainly don’t expect new people to contribute to the finances of the church.

Want some relief from the pressures of life? Come and get a lift at Westheights. You will always be welcomed!

COMMUNITY

At Westheights Community Church, you will find a strong sense of community and a place to make new friends. We give you the opportunity to be with other people…to worship together, be encouraged from God’s Word together, and to encourage each other along life’s journey.

We offer exciting top quality programming for children and youth. For children, we offer a Sunday morning program with both large- and small-group activities.

For students, we offer fun programs and activities for the Junior Youth (grades 6-8) on Sunday mornings in addition to monthly weekend events. The Senior Youth (grades 9-12) meet every Thursday night, also with monthly events.

For adults we offer House Church gatherings. They are weekly meetings of 10-30 people, where you can learn together and begin to develop friendships.

At Westheights there is something for everyone. For an overview of all of the events happening at Westheights visit our online calendar.

HISTORY

Westheights Community Church was formed on November 26, 1978, meeting at Westheights Public School. In 1986, a permanent building was erected at 82 Westheights Drive in Kitchener.

BIC

Up until now, you thought a BIC was a pen. It is also a church. Westheights is part of a Christian evangelical denomination called the Brethren in Christ – BIC for short. “Brethren” is a historic term we use to describe the value we place on community. The BIC have a shared heritage with the Mennonites and other Anabaptist groups. What began over two hundred years ago as a grass roots movement to get back to the simple teachings of Jesus has now grown to a fellowship of churches around the world.

As part of the Canadian BIC conference, we operate a camp called Kahquah (strange name, cool camp). Camp Kahquah is a wonderful camp in Northern Ontario located near the community of Magnetewan. The BIC is also a partner with the North American Mennonite Church for the operation of a relief organization called Mennonite Central Committee. Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) is a relief, service, and peace agency reflecting the biblical call to care for the hungry and the thirsty, the stranger and the naked, the sick and those in prison as described in Matthew 25:35-36.

Westheights is a supporting member of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada.
