Halloween for Hunger is right around the corner! It’s not too late to sign up to join us as we go door to door collecting non-perishable food items for The Food Bank of Waterloo Region. As well, please be sure to bring non-perishable food of your own to add to what we collect on Sunday evening. Last year we collected 2,226 pounds from the neighbourhood, and we’re hoping to top that this year!
If you have already signed up to volunteer, here are some things to remember:
- We would like to get going as close to 6:00pm as possible, so please arrive at the church BEFORE six. Once you arrive you will be put into your teams, given your route, told any last minute instructions and sent out to get collecting!
- We will need people to both pull the team’s wagon and go door-to-door collecting food.
- We’re not forcing anyone to dress up, but it is highly encouraged!
- Once your team has finished your route, come on back to the church for hot chocolate and hot apple cider and catch a bit of It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!
The Food Bank of Waterloo reports that there has been a 17% increase (since March 2009) in the number of households requesting food. This has been the largest increase their community programs have seen in their existence and the largest spike in usage since the recession in 1993.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday evening as we have fun together, meet our neighbours and help people in need in Waterloo Region!
Looking forward to this! It’s been such a great time in the last couple of years.
