We have gotten wonderful feedback from the neighbours who have donated food for H4H in the past. They look forward to having a group from Westheights arrive on their doorstep year after year! The more volunteers we have, the more houses we can reach… so please sign-up today!

A lot of volunteers are still needed. Don’t delay, sign up today! Volunteers of all ages are needed to collect non-perishable food from our generous neighbours for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region. This is an amazing opportunity to get to know one another at Westheights, meet our neighbours, help feed hungry people in KW… and have a great time doing it!

Halloween may have a creepy side, but it’s also a wonderful day for community. When else do neighbours (who may usually keep to themselves) get out into their neighbourhoods and knock on each others’ doors or generously greet strangers who have come onto their property with free candy? I love that it can be a fun and whimsical day when children get to use their imaginations as they pretend to be princesses or robots or SpongeBob SquarePants-es! 🙂

At Westheights, we choose to embrace Halloween while turning it on its head, making it a day that’s all about helping others. We hope that you will join us!

There are a number of ways to help out. We still need volunteers for the following:

  • Food Collection Teams: put your name down for this and you will be placed on a team with others from Westheights to go door to door on the 31st collecting food. (Too shy to go up to the door? No problem… You can pull the team’s wagon!) This is where we need the most volunteers!
  • make treats for hungry volunteers
  • lend us a wagon
  • bring non-perishable food with you this Sunday

To volunteer, sign up in the foyer on Sunday morning or contact Gillian Fenske by email or phone (519.741.1986 ext. 805).

Halloween for Hunger will be taking place on Monday, October 31 at 6:00pm. Please arrive on time so we can get volunteer orientation going, get divided into our teams and head out!

Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia!

Volunteers are welcome to take a cue from this little guy and dress up in a fun costume (nothing scary please!). Not your thing? Don’t fret! Come dressed as yourself. 🙂
