Next Wednesday we will be entering the season of Lent, a season often associated with ancient practices which some may view with suspicion. However, we believe that there is much to be learned from ancient practices and liturgical traditions. We can find meaningful times of renewal by practising these disciplines without adopting the spiritual superstition that some might associate with these traditions.
The scriptural impetus for Lent is the forty days that Jesus spent in the wilderness after his baptism. In observing a 40-day practice we are imitating Jesus’ time in the wilderness. On the calendar, Lent covers the 40 days (excluding Sundays) before Easter.
This year, the Be In Christ Church of Canada has compiled a Lent Devotional. We will be encouraging our church community to read and study the Be In Christ Lent Devotional together. As well, we will be giving out free Lent Devotional books at this Sunday’s service.
These are the songs we’ll be singing this Sunday (Feb 23, 2020), along with a YouTube playlist.
