Happy Friday, Westheights! Earlier this week I was talking to one of my neighbours. As we spoke, the conversation turned to the topic of faith and world events and out of the blue he quoted Jesus’ words “…do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself” (Matthew 6:34a). At the time I smiled and nodded. Sometimes words like these sound like instructions to ignore the reality of what is happening around us. But a few days later I was reminded that this is not what Jesus had in mind (check out Matthew 6:25-34). Rather, to make a long sermon very, very short, Jesus invites us to step out of the cycle of worry by becoming focused on his Kingdom. This Kingdom focus is what will help us navigate the times in which we live.
1. Westheights Virtual Food Drive
We are a church who loves our neighbours. One of the ways that we can love our neighbour is by supporting The Food Bank of Waterloo Region which helps address the issue of food insecurity across our region. During this time of crisis, one of the best ways that we can help is by making financial donations. Over the next two weeks (June 7-20) our church’s goal will be to raise enough money to provide 3,000 meals for those in need. To donate: https://www.thefoodbank.ca/westheightschurch/
2. June Zoom House Church
Are you looking for a unique way to fill your COVID time that will also help you grow in your faith? Well, for the month of June, Terry & Beth Kreutzkamp are hosting a 4-week Zoom group for people who would like to have a taste of our Westheights House Church ministry. This house church will be meeting, via Zoom, on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 during the month of June. There will be games, discussion and prayer, and possibly virtual snacks. If you are interested in participating in the June Zoom House Church please contact Terry for (zoom) details at terrykreutzkamp@westheights.org.
3. Virtual Foyer
This Sunday we are once again having a virtual foyer by using Zoom so that we can see and say ‘hi” to one another after the service. To join in right after this Sunday’s service, simply click this link. If you aren’t set up with Zoom yet, we recommend that you click on the link and set things up before Sunday.
4. Online Devotional Study
On Monday June 8, we will begin a 4-day devotional study called Fighting for Justice. To join, click here.
5. Looking For Worship Music?
The inspiration for the song 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord) came through the opening verse of Psalm 103: “Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.” We hope that this week’s Spotify and YouTube playlists help bring you to a place of worship.
