Happy Friday, Westheights! In our garden, Michelle and I have planted a row of sunflowers that are well over 6 feet tall and appear to still be growing! It is quite amazing to think that at one point they were just a handful of seeds. This reminds me of one of the ways that Jesus talks about the Kingdom of God in Luke 13:18-19 – “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.” Usually when people think about kingdoms they think of pomp, flash and grandeur. Jesus says that his kingdom is different. It starts small and ordinary but is growing into something unexpected and fruitful. As we go about our weekend, may we be looking for the ways that the Kingdom of God is growing both in us and in the world around us.
