Message by Josh Mutter – November 10, 2024

BIG IDEA:  Jesus is the Saviour of the world.

The Bible seems to suggest that our eternal destiny has less to do with what we believe and more to do with how we live our lives.

Psalm 92:7 (NIV)  … though the wicked spring up like grass and evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever.

John 5:29 (NLT)  … those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.

THREE PERSPECTIVES ON THE FATE OF NON-CHRISTIANS

1. Christian Exclusivism – Unless someone personally accepts Jesus then they remain alienated from God forever.

John 14:6 (NIV)  “… I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

2. Christian Universalism – God will ultimately save all people.

1 Timothy 2:3-6 (NIV)  “… God our Saviour … wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people.”

3. Christian Inclusivism – Salvation through Christ extends to sincere seekers of God’s truth.

“The doors of hell are locked on the inside.” C.S. Lewis, The Problem of Pain

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS

John 10:10 (NLT)  “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”

What the world longs for is not the threat of eternal damnation, but the Good News of the God who loves us, gives our lives purpose, answers the deepest longings of our hearts, and can change our lives for the better. This is what is compelling.
