Message by Josh Mutter – January 12, 2024
Happiness Reminder: Happiness is more about “who” than “what”.
BIG IDEA: No thing can bring us the happiness that we seek.
Peace is essential to our happiness.
-
Happy people are at peace with themselves
-
Happy people are at peace with other people.
-
Happy people are at peace with God.
“Peace with God, paves the way to peace with ourselves and equips us to make peace with others.”
Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV) Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Sin undermines our peace and happiness.
-
Sin separates us from other people
-
Sin separates us from God.
-
Sin separates us from ourselves.
Fill in the blank: If I ever did ______, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself.
James 1:15 (NIV) Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
Since happiness is about who, not what;
and since happy people are at peace with themselves, others, and possibly God;
and since sin always undermines peace by substituting and separating;
and since Jesus prioritized peace with God, others and ourselves – that the greatest command;
and since we all want to be happy;
then we should consider what it means to follow Jesus.
