Message by Josh Mutter – February 2, 2025 (HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY!)

HAPPINESS REMINDER:  Happiness is more about “who” than “what.”

BIG IDEA:  We undermine our happiness when we confuse pleasure for happiness.

John 10:10a (NIV)  “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.”

1. We are our own worst enemy.

John 10:10b (NIV) “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

2. We are invited to see that Jesus is for us.

John 10:11a (NIV)  I am the good shepherd.

John 10:11b (NIV)  The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

3. God created us with the capacity to experience both pleasure and happiness … the problem is when we prioritize pleasure over happiness.

Romans 6:16-18 (NIV)  Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness..

4. Obedience to sin leads to confused priorities.

5. Obedience to Jesus leads to clearer priorities.

CONCLUDING THOUGHT:
