Message by Christin Taylor – March 23, 2025

BIG IDEA:  Jesus gives us the power (and love) to give and serve.

Matthew 23:23-24 (NIV) “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.  You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.”

God gave the law through Moses to help orient the Israelites’ hearts to love God.

Leviticus 27: 30 (RSV) All the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the Lord’s; it is holy to the Lord.

God sent the prophets to help reorient their hearts and focus on

Micah 6:8 (NRSVUE) He has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?

Jesus came to fulfill the law and the prophets, empowering us to give and serve, from a heart of love and gratitude.

Matthew 5:17 (NRSVUE) “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.”
