Message by Josh Mutter – April 20, 2025

BIG IDEA:  Jesus meets us where we are and changes what we believe is possible.

John 20:19-23 (NIV)  On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

1. Changes in our expectations can be scary and disorienting.

 2. Jesus brings peace to our experiences of fear and confusion.

 3. Jesus transforms our expectations of what is possible.

 4. When we experience God’s peace, we discover new purpose for our lives.

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS:

  • Pay attention to where we feel stuck or afraid.
  • Make the choice to take the first step of forgiveness.
  • Reimagine what is possible.
