Message by Steve Drudge – July 20, 2025

BIG IDEA: Shalom – A comprehensive wholeness, wellbeing and completeness in relationship with God, others, oneself and all of creation… in whatever the circumstance.

Mark 4:35-41 (NSRV) On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, ‘Let us go across to the other side.’ And leaving the crowd behind, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. Other boats were with him. A great gale arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and said to him, ‘Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?’ He woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace! Be still!’ Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm. He said to them, ‘Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?’ And they were filled with great awe and said to one another, ‘Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?’

Peace with God

Peace with Creation

Christ with us

Philippians 4:6-7 (NSRV) Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Peace with other people

Peace with oneself

Matthew 6:25,27 (NSRV) Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? … And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life?

Philippians 4:8-9 (NSRV) Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.

A few practical observations about peace in anxious times:

  • Completing the stress cycle
  • The anxious generation

CLOSING THOUGHTS
