Galatians 5:22-23a (NIV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
BIG IDEA: The Holy Spirit wants to grow in us the courage to hold steady when everything around us is pushing for a reaction.
Patience is the courage to hold steady when everything around us is pushing for a reaction.
Patience is a spirit-enabled endurance and restraint in the face of frustration.
Why Patience Matters:
- Patience helps us let go of the pressure to rush.
- Patience helps us love people through the mess.
- Patience helps us to trust instead of forcing outcomes.
- Patience helps us avoid saying or doing things we’ll regret.
EXPLORING PATIENCE
Ecclesiastes 7:8-9 (NIV) The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.
Patience trusts the process.
“The end of the matter is better than its beginning…”
Patience is rooted in humility.
“… and patience is better than pride.”
Patience protects us from the results of our anger.
“Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.”
