Message by Christin Taylor – August 24, 2025

BIG PICTURE: What is gentleness? What does it actually look like in our lives? And how is it an expression of the Holy Spirit in our lives? Three pictures: 1) a picture of God; 2) a picture of Paul; and, 3) a picture of ourselves.

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

A PICTURE OF GOD: ALMIGHTY GOD COMES TO US GENTLY
Isaiah 40:10-11 (NIV) See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and he rules with a mighty arm. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him. He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

Isaiah 42:3a (NIV) A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out…

Zechariah 9:9 (NIV) Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

A PICTURE OF PAUL: PAUL’S FIXATION WITH GENTLENESS BECAUSE IT REMINDS HIM OF THE MERCY OF GOD
2 Corinthians 10:1 (NIV)  By the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you – I, Paul, who am timid when face to face with you, but bold when away!

1 Thessalonians 2:7 (NIV)  We were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little children.

1 Corinthians 4:21 (NIV)  What do you prefer? Shall I come to you with a whip? Or in love and with a gentle spirit.

A PICTURE OF OURSELVES: A LOOK IN THE MIRROR/SELF-ASSESSMENT
1. When Jesus speaks to me, do I listen?

2. When Jesus speaks to me, do I join other believers?

3. Where I am strong in my life, how can I act in gentleness?

Matthew 11:29 (NIV) “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
