Big Idea: Following Jesus means considering the cost.
Mark 6 (NIV) “Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed…”
Question: What does John’s death tell us about following Jesus?
This story reminds us that a fascination with Jesus is not the same as faith.
This story reminds us of sin’s raw ugliness.
This story reminds us that the longer truth goes unanswered, the more expensive obedience begins to feel.
This story is meant to be a sober reality check that invites us to consider the cost of following Jesus.
Reflection Question: Is our reputation, influence, or comfort a price we are willing to pay, or is the “price tag” of the Kingdom too high?
Concluding Thoughts:
● Our commitment to Jesus can cost us our sense of belonging.
● Our commitment to Jesus can limit our advancement.
● Our commitment to Jesus can demand that we trade our comfort for the sake of the marginalized.
What does faithfulness cost me…and am I willing to pay it?
