Message by Josh Mutter – March 1, 2026

Big Idea: Jesus invites us to adopt a cross-shaped approach to greatness.

Mark 9 (NIV) “And he said to them, “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power.”. …”

The cross shows that greatness is not measured by what others think of us.

The cross shows that greatness is not rooted in our own strength or abilities.

The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise. – Mark 9:31 (NIV)

The cross shows that greatness is not about what others can do for us.

“What if true greatness isn’t about being seen or being first? What if it’s about the unseen acts, the small sacrifices, the ways we lift others up – especially those who can’t repay us?”

Closing Thoughts:

  1. Do something without seeking attention

2. Admit where we need help

3. Serve someone who can’t repay the favour

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” –  1 Corinthians 1:18 NIV
