Message by Josh Mutter – June 14, 2026

Eschatology explores what the Bible teaches about the “last things”, including the future, the end of the world, and God’s ultimate plan.

A General Timeline:

  1. We die
  2. Believers are with Jesus
  3. Jesus returns
  4. The dead are raised
  5. Judgment occurs
  6. God renews heaven and earth
  7. God dwells with His people forever

Big Idea: The fulfillment of our hope is life forever in God’s presence.

THE STORY OF THE BIBLE IS THE STORY OF GOD MOVING TOWARDS PEOPLE

Genesis 3:8 (NIV) Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day…

Matthew 1:22-23 (NIV) All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).

John 1:14 (NIV) The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.

Revelation 21:3 (NIV) And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.”

GOD DOESN’T ABANDON WHAT HE LOVES – HE RESTORES IT

Revelation 21:1 (NIV) Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.

Romans 8:20 (NIV) …creation was subjected to frustration…

Romans 8:21 (NIV) …bondage to decay…

Romans 8:21 (NIV) …the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God

Romans 8:23 (NIV) Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.

Revelation 21:4 (NIV) He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

THE PRIZE OF ETERNITY IS NOT A PLACE BUT A PERSON

Revelation 22:1-5 (NIV) Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

  • We can endure because we know where the story is headed.
  • What we do today matters because God is renewing His creation.
