The Problem: Favouritism doesn’t just change how we treat people—it changes how we see others, how we understand ourselves, and how we view God.
Big Idea: Following Jesus changes not only how we treat people, but how we see them.
James 2:1-13 (NIV) “My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favouritism. Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in….”
When we rank people, we stop seeing them the way God does.
Jesus doesn’t just change what we do. He changes what we value.
The church becomes a community where people are valued not by status, but by the grace of God.
The goal isn’t just obedience. The goal is becoming people who love like Jesus.
If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbour as yourself,”you are doing right. – James 2:8 (NIV)
Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom… Mercy triumphs over judgment. – James 2:12-13 (NIV)
A community shaped by Jesus doesn’t rank people by status; it loves people with the mercy it has first received.
