Message by Josh Mutter – August 6, 2026

Series Big Idea: Our values help us discern what faithfulness looks like as we follow Jesus together.

Pietism: Emphasizes a personal relationship with God and the importance of personal conversion.

1. Core Value: Relying on God – We confess our dependence on God for everything, and seek to deepen our intimacy with Him by living prayerfully.

Luke 15:18-19 (NIV)  … Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.

Luke 15:29 (NIV)  Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders…

Reflection: Our ability to rely on God does not begin with us, but with God.

2. Core Value: Experiencing God’s love and grace – We value the free gift of salvation in Christ Jesus and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 5:8 (NIV)  God demonstrates his love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Matthew 16:15 (NIV)   Who do you say I am?

Matthew 16:16 (NIV)   You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.

Matthew 16:24 (NIV)   Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.

Reflection: Grace meets us where we are, but it doesn’t leave us the way we are.

Concluding Thoughts:

We don’t earn God’s love. We receive it.

For Westheights:

  • Our values shape how we gather.
  • Our values shape how we make plans.
  • Our values shape the kind of community we create.
