Healing What’s Within Discussion Group
As a community, we’ve been learning how to talk about mental health with honesty and compassion—creating space where struggle isn’t hidden and support isn’t conditional. That work opens a door.
Healing What’s Within walks through that door and invites us deeper. It explores how anxiety, shame, and isolation are not only personal experiences, but are also shaped by the systems and relationships we’re part of—including our churches. This isn’t about blame—it’s about growing in awareness together and becoming more intentional about the patterns we carry and the ones we want to build instead.
Written by therapist and spiritual director Chuck DeGroat, this study helps us reflect on:
- family-of-origin wounds we bring into community
- unspoken expectations that lead to performance over belonging
- ways faith communities can unintentionally reproduce harm
This is an invitation to become safer with one another by honestly engaging our own stories, defences, and the systems we’ve inherited.
If previous conversations or courses have given you language for compassion, this study group, facilitated by Dan Jennings, offers tools for transformation. It’s not a new direction—it’s the next step.
What to Expect:
- Reading a chapter together at the start of each session
- Guided discussion questions
- Occasional pre-session preparation (shared ahead of time)
