“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5
The dominating, aggressive, harsh and tyrannical people are sometimes those who control and dominate our world. This is something which would have been fully understood by a society under rule by yet another foreign nation, the Roman Empire. Jesus contrasts the abuse of power to those who are meek. Jesus flips worldly understanding upside down and claims that it will be those who are gentle, those who do not assert themselves over others in order to advance their own cause who will inherit the earth.
Jesus describes an individual who, while gentle in spirit, carries a strength of non-assertiveness to bring about God’s will in this world. Jesus was the ultimate example of this. He was incredibly gentle in spirit towards those around Him and He lived with a serving spirit and refused to accept the worldly power Satan offered Him. His example has served as our model for all those who follow him.
- Praise God for who He is
- Confess your sinfulness and need for cleansing
- Allow His Spirit to draw you near
- Listen as He speaks to you
- Pray that God can help us to become gentle in spirit
- Pray that we can understand non-assertive strength
- Thank God for hearing you
- Trust that God is at work to accomplish His will
What’s happening around us?
After 110 years of global ministry, Brethren in Christ World Missions (BICWM) continues to embrace its heritage and future, connecting with people around the world as God calls every tongue and tribe into His mission. Their priority is on relationship with “least-reached” peoples – those who have no access to the gospel in their own language or culture.
BICWM is always looking for those willing to get involved in both short-term and long-term missions work. As well, visit the BICWM website to donate financially to a specific missionary or the organization as a whole or sign up for updates and prayer requests.
