Yesterday I had a bit of a fall while curling with some friends. Moving too fast on the ice, I fell backwards and hit my head. I will admit that sports are not my thing, but falling back on the ice did take me by surprise.
Despite feeling a bit shook up, and somewhat self-conscious, I was also very aware and grateful for good friends who are right there to help and show support and concern.
Today it made me think of the following verses:
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work. If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!”
How about you? Have you had an experience recently (or in the past) that has made you thankful for the support of your friends, family, and church community?
The thing that has surprised me throughout my life is that sometimes the people you don’t expect to “help you up” are the ones that do. And sometimes the people you think would be there for you just don’t come through.
