I was thinking about Nel Slater’s words on Sunday. It was a great sermon. It got to the point of why community is challenging.

As I was thinking about it, I wondered if the first step, a courageous step in the process of connecting in community is  being the person who is willing to the first step in the relationship. We tend to wait on other people to connect with us. But I think, the right response is to take the initiative to connect with others. But this often takes courage. Why? Because, we don’t know if people will accept us or reject us.

What would it take for a church to be a truly transformational community, like the one described in Acts 2:44? I am thinking that it would be one where people take the first step … the courageous step … and reach out to connect with others, rather than wait for people to reach out to us.

Do you agree with me? What are the other reasons we don’t take the initiative and reach out to other people?
