Matthew 7:24 (NLT) – Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.
I love the story Jesus told of the two foundations. You can either build your house on sand or solid rock. Sometimes Jesus is cryptic in his teaching and sometimes he is profoundly clear. This verse/illustration is brilliant in picturing for me why I have to follow him and his teaching … it strengthens my life and my experience has proven that to be true.
The same passage in THE MESSAGE Paraphrase: These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.
