Guy Hamel, 1924-2013

GUY ALLEN HAMEL Guy started his next journey peacefully, surrounded by his wife and children. Born in Ottawa on February 7, 1924 he passed away on September 20, 2013, in Burlington. He leaves behind his loving wife Yvette of 59 years (nee LeBlanc) and children and grandchildren: Suzanne (Tom) and John Thomas; Louise (Jim), Adrian, Blake and Emily; Marc (Patricia), Nicole, Luc, Natalie and Matthew; Michelle (Kevin), Hannah and Hayley; and Paul (Ruth Anne), Jasmine, Zachary and Gabrielle. Predeceased by his brother John, he is survived by his brother Roger. He had an amazing life that spanned three continents, spending time in Venezuela, Southern Rhodesia and in Canada, between Quebec and Ontario. He was a veteran. He graduated from MCGill with a mechanical engineering degree. This degree laid the foundation for his lifelong learning habit and career that began in mining, moved to manufacturing and sales. He believed in giving to the community and through his civic initiatives he coached hockey, was involved in the scouting movement and participated on community boards. He was a mentor and a touchstone for many of his children’s friends who were also able to benefit from his wise counsel. In his later life his passion for bridge and for bringing on new friends cemented a small group of like minded individuals for regular bridge events. His love of family inspired a biannual family get together that is now going into its 16th year. He will be deeply missed by all.
