Yesterday was a very exciting day for Westheights Community Church! After months of preparing, and then waiting, the Syrian refugee family that we had been matched to sponsor through MCC arrived, finally.

A large group of us drove to Pearson airport in Toronto to greet the new family as they stepped on to Canadian soil for the first time.

The family appeared extremely happy to be in their brand new home country. The children were especially charming and greeted us with the words “Merci.” (At the right time we will have to inform them most of us don’t speak French in this part of Canada).

It was humbling to see a family of five carry all of their possessions in two suitcases.

You can see from the pictures that there was excitement all around for both greeters and new Canadians. Tony and some members of the Syrian Refuge Team drove them to their new apartment in Kitchener. Today a few people are meeting with the family and making arrangements for the necessary first steps for each member of the family.

Be in prayer for them as they adjust to many new things in their new life in our country.
