What would life in Canada be without fun stories to tell about our crazy and eccentric winters? We hope you enjoyed your snowed-in weekend and that great family/friend memories were made. As you know, due to our wacky weather, we had to postpone the Good Neighbours Day event and have rescheduled it to Saturday, May 26th.

Everything will be the same as originally planned, except it will be warmer weather! So on Saturday, May 26th, we’ll be showing our neighbours at Forest Heights Long Term Care (right next door to Westheights) the love of God in practical ways. There are three ways to be involved:

OPTION ONE: OUTDOOR WORK

Bring your gloves and rubber boots, and let’s get working! Potential jobs include cleaning up the Forest Heights Long Term Care property and partnering up with the residents to create small potted plants for them to keep. If you would like to help out, email Tom Fenske or sign up in the Westheights foyer. All ages welcome.

OPTION TWO: SPA SERVICES

Let’s pamper the residents at Forest Heights Long-Term Care with facials, hand massages, and manicures. Even our youngest babies and kids can help by visiting with the residents. RSVP to Charlene Neuman or sign-up in the Westheights foyer if you would like to be involved.

All ages welcome as the residents enjoy visits with babies, kids, teens and grown-ups! Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Only kids in Grades 2 and up will be assigned SPA volunteer roles.

OPTION THREE: COFFEE SERVICE AND INDOOR WORK

Care for and support the residents of Forest Heights Long Term Care by serving coffee and tea, handing out flowers to spa patrons, walking residents to and from their rooms, and possibly playing games. RSVP to Charlene Neuman or sign-up in the Westheights foyer if you would like to be involved.

This is where our men can be especially helpful, with portering wheelchair-bound residents to and from their rooms, serving coffee/tea and socializing. Kids in Grades 2 and up are welcome to help with these roles, if accompanied by an adult.

Please arrive by 9:30 am in the Westheights foyer to divide into our teams and head out to our pre-arranged locations, wrapping up at noon.

We wholeheartedly encourage you to sign up to be part of this practical application of loving our neighbours.

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”  Matthew 22:37-40

“Each one of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, ‘How can I help?’”  Romans 15:2 (MSG)
