As someone who has now travelled to Nicaragua 5 times since 2011, my heart is heavy due to the current situation there. The country is in a state of crisis due to the violent clash between the government and opposition protestors. It seems clear that there are significant human rights violations happening, and many people have died.

The city of Masaya has been a central location of the clash. Terrible things have been happening there. Our Westheights team to Nicaragua in 2012 worked at the BIC church in Masaya and we’ve been back there several times on subsequent trips. We have friends and connections there. So this hits home.

As a church, we at Westheights have a significant connection to Nicaragua. Let’s all be praying for this country. For peace and successful negotiations between the government and opposition. Let’s pray for our Nicaraguan brothers and sisters. For safety. For wisdom for our pastors as they lead during fearful and uncertain times. May they know the peace and presence of God in situations that most of us will never have to face.
