For anyone who has ever struggled with fears or worries, the song “You Make Me Brave” is a powerful reminder of where we can draw our strength. Canadian songwriter Amanda Cook, recalls the birth of the song “You Make Me Brave,” one of the worship songs we’ll be singing this Sunday:
“The song was the result of a long, dry season God took me through to reach the point where I was able to express what He had been doing through the last number of years. God has themes in all of our lives, and I feel like bravery is something that He’s always called me into. I’ve struggled with fear my whole life. You name it, I’ve been afraid of it. The song is a very personal statement to me because it’s not written out of a place of declaration that ‘I’m so brave.’ I’m writing myself into that character, writing myself into the person that I really do feel called to be and want to be.”
YOU MAKE ME BRAVE
I stand before You now
The greatness of your renown
I have heard of the majesty and wonder of you
King of Heaven, in humility, I bow
As Your love, in wave after wave
Crashes over me, crashes over me
For You are for us
You are not against us
Champion of Heaven
You made a way for all to enter in
I have heard You calling my name
I have heard the song of love that You sing
So I will let You draw me out beyond the shore
Into Your grace
Your grace
As Your love, in wave after wave
Crashes over me, crashes over me
For You are for us
You are not against us
Champion of Heaven
You made a way for all to enter into
‘Cause you make me brave
You make me brave
You call me out beyond the shore into the waves
You make me brave
You make me brave
No fear can hinder now the love that made a way
You make me brave
You make me brave
You call me out beyond the shore into the waves
You make me brave
You make me brave
No fear can hinder now the promises you made
