This week’s teaching challenged us to live out one of our core values of the Be In Christ Church of Canada: We value uncluttered lives, which free us to love boldly, give generously, and serve joyfully. How can we live more simply and how does that lead to giving more generously?

Nel Slater is a career counsellor. She loves walking and eating dark chocolate, is an artist at heart, and believes in growing and learning, living what you believe, and having fun in whatever you do.

S – MAKE SPACE IN YOUR SCHEDULE

Mark 4:38 CEV Jesus was in the back of the boat with his head on a pillow, and he was asleep. His disciples woke him and said, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re about to drown?”

Matthew 6:34 CEV Don’t worry about tomorrow. It will take care of itself. You have enough to worry about today.

Matthew 6:11 CEV Give us our food for today.

I – INVEST IN THE POOR

ASCETICISM vs SIMPLICITY vs MATERIALISM

Philippians 4:12 NIV I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

Proverbs 19:17 CEV Caring for the poor is lending to the Lord, and you will be well repaid.

M – LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR MISSION IN LIFE

John 8:50 CEV I don’t want honour for myself. But there is one who wants me to be honoured, and he is also the one who judges.

Matthew 6:33 CEV But more than anything else, put God’s work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as well.

P – USE PRAYER PROMPTS THROUGHOUT THE DAY

Matthew 14:23 CEV Then he went up on a mountain where he could be alone and pray. Later that evening, he was still there.

John 6:11 CEV Jesus took the bread in his hands and gave thanks to God. Then he passed the bread to the people, and he did the same with the fish, until everyone had plenty to eat.

L – LISTEN TO PEOPLE
