It feels like a long time since we’ve all been together and there has been a lot happening at Westheights. In our house I’ve seen youth, young adults and house churches meeting together online. I’ve been part of the Westheights Kids online program as well and it has been wonderful to see the kids in my class through Zoom. Even though a lot has changed, the church continues to meet and fulfill our mission.

As Treasurer, I started this lockdown with a mix of confidence and uncertainty. I was confident that many people were already giving online and that others would find new ways to give but I was also concerned that we might find ourselves in a difficult position if the lockdown continued for more than a few months. However, people started to amaze me very quickly, as many people who have been faithful supporters of the church through the Sunday morning offering moved to e-transfer or online, or simply started bringing a cheque to the office on a regular basis. There have even been new people who have become regular givers during this time. It has been so humbling to see the way that people have continued to be committed to God’s work through their local church.

At the end of August, our giving was lower than last year but our expenses were lower as well. As a result, we are in a very similar situation to where we were last year at this time. We have been able to continue our regular contribution to the Canadian BIC as budgeted and the Board has even been able to respond to requests from other BIC communities around the world who are also impacted by Covid. The staff, the Board and I are all so grateful.

Many thanks to everyone who is contributing financially to the work of God at Westheights. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference. May He bless you richly even in these strange times. Looking forward to seeing you again!
