Dear Westheights Community Church family,

Yesterday our church Board met to discuss our plans for in-person Sunday gatherings. Our hope was that these gatherings would resume this Sunday, October 11, and we were very excited about being able to see some of you in-person once again. However, after much deliberation we believe that given what is happening this fall with COVID-19 in our province and in our region, that now is not the right time to restart our in-person Sunday gatherings. Instead, we will continue to make our Sunday services available online.

We understand that this news will be disappointing for some and we get that. We too miss meeting in-person with our church community and we understand that the experience of isolation is all too real for some. As a Board, we want to support our church family and will be reassessing this decision on an ongoing basis. In addition, we are looking into new ways that we can connect with each other during this interim period of time. Pausing the start of the Sunday morning gatherings does not affect current plans for infrequent, safe, small in-person gatherings while they are permitted by public health protocols.

In the meantime, I will remind us that a pandemic has not changed the fact that we are a church that is committed to helping people find and follow Jesus. Indeed, throughout this season we have found creative ways to express this reality and we are committed to continuing to express this going forward. Please pray for us as we seek to understand how God is leading us in these days.

On behalf of the church Board,

Pastor Josh Mutter
