How are we to be caring for one another? The reality is that we just can’t be with people the way that we are used to. Many people are struggling with isolation and loneliness in this season, and this means that the need to care for one another is very real. As followers of Jesus in 2020, looking into 2021, we need to be more thoughtful, intentional, and creative about how we care for one another. What can we learn from the Early Church, and how might we live this out in 2020 and beyond?

PIVOT: CARING FOR ONE ANOTHER

Message by Josh Mutter – November 8, 2020

Lord, make us an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let us sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

Lord Jesus, grant that we may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

– Saint Francis of Assisi

Acts 2:42-47 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

HAVE A RHYTHM OF LIFE THAT FOCUSES ON THE GENEROUS AND SACRIFICIAL LOVE OF JESUS.

TO CARE FOR ONE ANOTHER IS TO ACT SACRIFICIALLY.

TO BE A CARING CHURCH COMMUNITY IS TO BE AN ATTRACTIVE CHURCH COMMUNITY.
