To continue our series on Real People in God’s Story we invited a returning guest speaker, Bill Johnson, to come speak. When Bill heard about our series, he thought on how real people have real issues, and brought to us a message on John Mark, and how relationships, and humans, can be restored, through time, vulnerability, communication and with God’s help.

Real People In God’s Story: John Mark

Message by Bill Johnston – August 22, 2021

This morning’s message is about RESTORATION

To “re-store” something is to bring something back to its original condition.

Restoration is most important when it is applied not to things, but when it is applied to people in general, and to relationships in particular.

Observation # 1 – Almost all relationships BEGIN Well

Acts 12:25 – “When Barnabas and Saul had finished their mission, they returned from Jerusalem, taking with them John, also called Mark.”

Observation # 2 – Sometimes Relationships GO SOUTH

Acts 13:6, 13 – “They traveled through the whole island [of Cyprus] until they came to Paphos.  From Paphos Paul and his companions sailed to Perga and Pamphylia, where John [Mark] left them to return to Jerusalem.”

Acts 15:36-40 (NIV) – “Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark….  “They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company.  Barnabas took [John] Mark and sailed for Cyprus, but Paul chose Silas….”

Observation # 3 – Sometimes Relationships Are RESTORED

2 Timothy 4:9-11 – “Only Luke is with me.  Get [John] Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful (useful) to me in my ministry.”
